Who Are We?
We’re an informal network
- Of individual donors who have given 50% (or more) of our net worth once or 50% (or more) of our income (over 3+ years) to charitable organizations, or
- Of founders of businesses which are giving 50% (or more) of the profits to charitable organizations
Why a 50% League?
The norm is that middle-income Americans give 2% of their income—and that low-income and high-income Americans give 3%. The 50% League might just shake up that status quo. We are getting people excited about they difference they can make when they put their money where their hearts are.
The League's purpose is unabashedly to encourage others to reach for their full giving potential.
Getting Started
As of December 2006 we are excited to count 71 people in the 50% League (66 of whom have made charitable donations of at least half a million dollars and some considerably more).
We expect to launch the League publicly by March 2007 once we have developed the infrastructure and volunteers to support active programs. 50% League plans for the coming year include:
- Do public outreach throughout New England
- Present at conferences and place articles in alumnae magazines
- Create a mentorship program for those exploring their giving potential
- Partner with Inspired Legacies, PlayBig, the Leverage Alliance, and other donor education organizations
